Quick Resize
Script for Adobe Illustrator
ㅤ
Description
Quick Resize is a floating panel for Adobe Illustrator that resizes selected objects to an exact width or height. Enter a value in the active document's ruler units, choose a dimension, and resize one or many objects proportionally. The palette stays open while you work.
ㅤ
Features
- Floating Palette Interface – A non-modal, always-available palette that remains open while you continue working in Illustrator.
- Width or Height Mode – Choose the dimension each selected item should match.
- Document Unit Support – Uses the active document's ruler units: pixels, inches, centimeters, millimeters, picas, or points.
- Multiple-Object Resizing – Resizes every eligible selected object individually to the same target width or height.
- Quick Reset – Click the unit label to set the size to 0 and return focus to the input field.
- Resizable Layout – Expand the palette horizontally to make more room for the size field.
ㅤ
Installation
1. Download the Quick Resize.jsx script file.
2. Place it in the Adobe Illustrator Scripts folder:
⮑ macOS: /Applications/Adobe Illustrator (Version)/Presets/(Language)/Scripts
⮑ Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator (Version)\Presets(Language)\Scripts
3. Restart Adobe Illustrator if it is already running.
4. Choose File > Scripts > Quick Resize.
Alternatively, choose File > Scripts > Other Script... and browse to the file, or drag the .jsx file onto the Illustrator workspace. These methods do not require installing the script in the Scripts folder.
ㅤ
Using the Script
ㅤ
Launch the Script
Run Quick Resize from Illustrator. The palette contains:
- Width and Height toggle buttons
- A target-size input field
- A label showing the active document's ruler unit
- A Resize button
- Footer links for support, the developer's website, and this guide
ㅤ

ㅤ
➊ Select Objects
Select one or more objects in the active Illustrator document. Quick Resize supports common Illustrator artwork, including:
- Paths, compound paths, and groups
- Text objects and text selections
- Placed images and other resizable page items
- Multiple objects selected at the same time
Locked or hidden items are skipped. Items with no measurable width or height are also skipped.
ㅤ
➋ Choose Width or Height
Choose the dimension to resize:
- Select Width to give each eligible item the target width.
- Select Height to give each eligible item the target height.
Only one mode is active at a time.
ㅤ
➌ Enter the Target Size
Enter a positive number in the size field. Accepted formats include:
- Whole numbers, such as 100
- Decimal values, such as 25.5 or .5
- A comma or period as the decimal separator, such as 25,5 or 25.5
Do not type a unit suffix in the field. The value is interpreted in the active document's ruler units when you apply the resize. For example, entering 25 in a millimeter document means 25 mm.
The unit label can show px, in, cm, mm, pc, or pt.
ㅤ
➍ Use Keyboard Controls
With the size field active:
- Press Up Arrow to add 1 unit.
- Press Down Arrow to subtract 1 unit.
- Press Shift + Up Arrow to add 10 units.
- Press Shift + Down Arrow to subtract 10 units.
- Press Enter or Return to resize the selection.
- Press Escape to close the palette.
Arrow-key adjustments cannot reduce the value below 0. Values are displayed with up to two decimal places.
ㅤ
➎ Apply the Resize
Click Resize or press Enter/Return. For each eligible selected item, Quick Resize:
- Measures its visible width or height.
- Calculates the proportional scale required to reach the target value.
- Scales the item uniformly from its center.
When several objects are selected, each object is resized independently. For example, Width mode with a value of 100 makes every eligible selected object 100 units wide; it does not resize the selection as one combined group.
A successful resize is applied without a confirmation dialog. The palette remains open, and focus returns to the size field so you can continue working.
ㅤ
➏ Reset the Size
Click the unit label beside the input field to set the value to 0. Focus returns to the field so you can immediately type a new value. Because 0 is not a valid target size, enter a value greater than 0 before resizing.
ㅤ
➐ Resize the Palette
Drag a side of the palette to change its width. The size field expands with the window. The palette height remains fixed to preserve the control layout.
ㅤ
☻ Wrap-Up
Quick Resize provides a compact way to standardize object dimensions without repeatedly opening Illustrator dialogs. Choose width or height, enter a value in the document's units, and resize individual selected objects proportionally with a click or the Enter key.
