Description
Font Style Remapper is a powerful script for Adobe Illustrator that allows you to surgically find and replace text styles within your selection.
Whether you need to convert all "Italic" text to "Bold", or change specific "Black" text to "All Caps", this script handles it with precision while preserving your font families.
It understands both standard font styles (like Bold, Italic, Regular, Light) and text decorations (like Underline, Strikethrough, Superscript), giving you complete control over your typography without manually editing every text frame.
ㅤ
Key Features
- Smart Style Swapping: Detects styles within the selected font families (e.g., swap "Helvetica Neue Italic" to "Helvetica Neue Bold" automatically).
- Text Decorations: Support for All Caps, Small Caps, Underline, Strikethrough, Superscript, and Subscript.
- Searchable Lists: Fast-filter search bars help you find specific styles in seconds.
- Real-Time Preview: See your changes instantly on the canvas before committing.
- Hide Edges: Toggle selection edges off during preview for an unobstructed view of your typography.
- Selection Zoom: Instantly zoom in to fit your selected text frames for a closer look.

ㅤ
Using the Script
ㅤ
➊ Preparing Your Selection
- Open your document in Adobe Illustrator.
- Select the text objects or text frames you want to edit. You can select multiple text frames at once.
➋ Running the Script
- Go to File > Scripts > Font Style Remapper.
- The script dialog will appear:
ㅤ

ㅤ
➌ Selecting Styles
The interface is divided into two main panels:
ㅤ
Find Style (Left Panel):
- Select the style you want to change.
- Use the search bar at the top to filter the list (e.g., type "Italic" to show only italic options).
- Example: Select "Italic" to target all italic text in your selection.
ㅤ
Replace With (Right Panel):
- Select the destination style you want to apply.
- Example: Select "Bold" to convert the found italic text into bold text.
➍ Using Preview Tools
Before applying changes, use the preview tools at the center of the dialog:
- Preview Checkbox: Checked by default. This applies the changes real-time so you can see exactly how the text will look. Uncheck it to revert to the original state.
- Hide Edges: Check this to hide the blue selection lines and bounding boxes. This is incredibly useful for judging the visual weight of fonts without distractions.
- Zoom Button (✚): Click the small button with the plus sign (between Cancel and OK) to instantly zoom the viewport to fill your selected text frames.
➎ Applying Changes
- OK: Click to confirm the changes and close the script. You will receive a summary alert telling you how many characters were updated.
- Cancel: Click to discard all changes (even if Preview was on) and exit the script.
ㅤ
Troubleshooting
- "No changes were made": This usually means the targeted Find Style wasn't present in your selection, or the font family you are using doesn't support the Replace With style (e.g., trying to apply "Bold" to a font that only has a "Regular" weight).
