Installation

1. Download the Circle With N Points.jsx script file.

2. Place the script in your Adobe Illustrator Scripts folder:

⮑ Mac: /Applications/Adobe Illustrator (Version)/Presets/(Language)/Scripts

⮑ Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator (Version)\Presets(Language)\Scripts

3. Restart Adobe Illustrator if it's already running

4. Access the script via File > Scripts > Circle With N Points

5. Alternatively, run it directly via File > Scripts > Other Script... and browse to the file location

Tip: You can also drag and drop the .jsx file directly onto the Illustrator workspace to run the script instantly – no installation needed.

Using the Script

General Setup

When you launch the script, a main dialog window appears. It displays all the settings required to create custom shapes.

  • First, make sure you have an active document open.
  • Make sure the active layer is unlocked and visible.
  • If the current layer is locked or hidden, the script will automatically create a new layer for your shapes.

➊ Choosing Shape Type

You can select the base style of your shape.

  • Circle: Generates a curved path connecting your specified points.
  • Polygon: Generates straight lines connecting your specified points.

➋ Setting Number of Points

Adjust how many anchor points the shape will have.

  • Use the slider or type a value between 3 and 50 into the text box.
  • Right-click the slider to reset to the default value of 4 points.
  • Use the Up and Down arrow keys inside the text box to fine-tune the value (Hold Shift to jump by 10).

➌ Adjusting Radius

Set the overall size of your shape.

  • Use the slider or type a value between 10 and 1000 into the text box.
  • Right-click the slider to reset to the default value of 100.
  • Arrow keys also work here for precise adjustments.

Configuring Stroke Weight

Define the thickness of the shape's path.

  • Change the stroke thickness from 0.1 to 100.
  • Right-click the slider to reset to the default value of 1.

Create multiple shapes within one another instantly.

  • Enter a value or slide from 1 to 20 rings.
  • The shapes will be spaced equally, starting from the full radius down towards the center.
  • Right-click the slider to reset to a single shape.

➏ Applying Stroke Color

Select the perfect outline color for your geometry.

  • Type a valid Hex code directly into the input field (e.g., #FF0000).
  • Click on the color swatch or the label text to open the native Illustrator Color Picker.
  • The color picker supports all native formats, and your choice will apply seamlessly to the generated shapes.

Preview your changes directly on the artboard without committing to them.

  • Check or uncheck the Preview box to toggle real-time rendering.
  • When enabled, the script draws a temporary preview layer.
  • Red dots will indicate the position of individual anchor points for better visual clarity.

➑ Finalizing

Once you are happy with the preview:

  • Click the OK button to generate the final path items on your artboard.
  • The view will automatically center and fit your newly created shape(s) in the active window.
  • Click Cancel if you wish to exit without generating the shape.

    8. Updates and Support

    Licensor is not obligated to provide updates, support, or maintenance for the Software. However, updates may be provided at the sole discretion of the Licensor.

    9. Governing Law

    This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

    10. Entire Agreement

    This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and the Licensor concerning the Software and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous understandings regarding such subject matter.
