Installation

1. Download the Bento Grid Generator.jsx file.

2. Place the file in your Adobe Illustrator Scripts folder:

⮑ Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator <Version>\Presets\<Language>\Scripts

3. Restart Adobe Illustrator if it's already running.

4. Open Adobe Illustrator and create or open a document.

5. Go to File > Scripts > Bento Grid Generator.

Configure Bento Grid Settings

➊ Columns & Rows:

Set the number of columns and rows for your grid.

  • Use the slider or enter a value directly.
  • Enable Sync Columns & Rows to maintain equal values.
  • Use Up and Down Arrow keys to adjust values in number fields.

  • Margin: Space between the grid and artboard edges.
  • Gutter: Space between grid cells.
  • Enable Sync Margin & Gutter to maintain equal values.

  • Adjust the width and height of your grid area.
  • Enable Lock Aspect Ratio to maintain proportions.

➍ Corners  & Stroke:

  • Set the corner radius for all grid cells.
  • Set the stroke weight (thickness) for grid cell outlines.

  • Enable "Save Settings" to remember your configuration for next time.

  • Choose Active Selection to create a grid within your selected objects.
  • Or select an artboard from the dropdown menu.

  • Click the "+" button next to the target dropdown to generate different random arrangements with the same settings

➑ Fill Color & Stroke Color:

  • Click the color swatches to open the color picker.
  • Choose custom colors for fills and strokes.

  • The script shows a real-time preview as you adjust settings.
  • The preview updates automatically with each setting change.
  • Click OK to create the final Bento Grid on a new layer.
  • The grid will be placed on a layer named Bento Grid.
